The historic centre is set on a tufaceous cliff in the
north-eastern part of the Tuscia area of Viterbo near the Umbrian border, in
an area better known as Valle dei Calanchi. The lookout point affords a
stunning view of Civita di Bagnoregio. The parish church of San
Giovanni preserves the remains of frescoes dating to the thirteenth
century. The church of Santa Maria del Poggio has a noteworthy
altra with a canopy, dating to the eighteenth century. Palazzo Bourbon del
Monte, once owned by the Monaldeschi family, is very elegant.
